Why are Kansas and Arkansas pronounced differently?
Why are words ending in "ough" pronounced differently: cough, bough, dough, through, though? Why does fridge have a "d" and refrigerator does not have one? Why are Zoe and Zoey pronounced the same but not Joe and Joey? Why can you drink a drink and not food a food? Why is a "w" called a "double U" when it is clearly a "double V" ? Is the "s" or the "c" silent in "scent"? Is the word "queue" just a Q followed by four silent letters? |
