How To Check The Lie Angles Of Your Irons
Thanks Club Fitter Use a dry-erase marker and range balls.
Method: Draw a one inch line on a golf ball. Place the ball on the ground with the line pointing at the target. Choose an iron. Hit a shot and observe your ball flight. Now look at the face or your iron to see where the dry-erase marker line is pointing. If the ball travelled as intended and the line on your iron is close to 90 degrees to the grooves, the lie angle is correct. If the line on your iron points toward the toe, your lie angle is too upright and needs to be adjusted flatter. If the line on your iron is toward the heel, your lie angle is too flat and needs to be adjusted upright. Have a clubfitter do a final check before any adjustments are made - ask the club fitter to use a launch monitor. The club fitter will use a lie and loft bending machine to easily adjust your irons. Repeat this process for all of your irons and wedges. Chart the information. Example: 7 iron = toe, PW = heel, Ask a club fitter to individually adjust each club to fit your swing. |
