To create an eruption
in the classroom with baking soda, you will need some vinegar, a
plastic bottle, a funnel, and some dish soap. Fill the bottle about half-way with vinegar and add a few drops of dish soap. You can also add some food coloring for a more dramatic effect. Use the funnel to pour some baking soda into a small paper cup or a balloon. You will need about a tablespoon of baking soda for each cup of vinegar. Place the paper cup or the balloon over the mouth of the bottle, making sure it is secure. If you are using a balloon, you may need to stretch it first. When you are ready, lift the paper cup or the balloon and let the baking soda fall into the bottle. This will cause a chemical reaction that will produce carbon dioxide gas and foam. Watch as the foam erupts out of the bottle like a volcano. Be careful, it may be messy! |
